What happened to traditional analog clocks?

Imagine a clock. Do you see a round surface with hands pointing at tick marks and numbers? Or do you see a rectangular box with the time already written? Most people see the first option, an analog clock, however, most prefer to tell time from the latter one, a digital clock.

With a new age of technology surfacing, it seems that analog clocks are becoming outdated, symbolizing a sort of vintage object or method of telling time.

Smart electronic devices like phones, computers, watches and tablets all show us the time digitally instead of analogously. In fact, digital clocks that tell time in numbers are being implemented in classrooms around campus and in other schools.

And so, the burning question is, what happened to traditional clocks?

In the past, traditional clocks were a staple, the main method of telling time, and were highly recognizable. Yet, the integration of smart gadgets quickly snapped the analog clocks to extinction.

The change is quite unnecessary, especially since older clocks are iconic even though it takes more time to figure out what time is it telling. Everything from the sound to the looks of the clock represent its ingenious design.

It’s quite outrageous that such beautiful designs are no longer used. With the newer designs of clocks that show time with actual digits, it eliminates the thinking for reading the time.

If you think about it, it requires some thinking and math to figure out the time. Although it may be a hassle to do it compared to the newer clocks, it encourages people to think a little bit, instead of mindlessly reading what is there. If there were newer clocks put in place, then not a lot of people would be using their mind toward time.

Regardless of the reasons, analog clocks have some natural disadvantages, while newer digital clocks offer certain advantages.

Unfortunately, analog clocks could tend to be unreliable. Sometimes, they could end up being incorrect or have a different speed that would have to force people to manually change the time, which could seem to be a big disadvantage at times.

Additionally, digital clocks are more accurate because they can sync with the internet to keep precise time. As more devices automatically display the correct time, traditional clocks are becoming less relevant. The only place where traditional clocks are still commonly used are in watches, yet even there, they are being replaced by electronic devices like smart watches.

But there comes a better solution: why can’t we apply advanced technology on traditional analog clocks? We can fix the flaws with older clocks, but we choose to pursue a more mindless clock to read from. It would be perfect and could teach many individuals on how to tell time and concept of time.

Many people only recall learning how to tell time in elementary school, and is sadly forgotten as time goes on in a time where digital technology takes over, and time will be more easier to read.

So asking a small favor to classes, bring them back please.
