Historically, jewelry has been a big part of everyday fashion. Yet in recent years, stacking jewelry such as rings and necklaces has become increasingly popular. Many individuals enjoy stacking to add some flare to any outfit. For many, they mix metals or experiment with different styles, thickness, and textures of jewelry. However, there are certain things that shouldn’t be done since it can not always look amazing.
With the rise of social media, many take inspiration from creators in how they wear jewelry and how to stack it. A lot of creativity for how to stack jewelry has come from the apps TikTok and Pinterest. On both platforms, creators share their outfits and jewelry where others try to replicate this in their own way.
“Most of my inspiration comes from the people I see on TikTok and Pinterest,” Alexa Corpuz (9) said.
In many situations, these are the best places to get inspiration for jewelry, but it is always great to experiment in your own ways. Jewelry has always been and will always be a way to add to an outfit. However, stacking takes this feature to another level. With being able to properly stack jewelry, it can help to make an outfit look amazing.
“I like stacking jewelry because I feel like it looks clean and puts a finishing touch on outfits,” Natalia Maldonado (9) said.
Jewelry is always a way to accentuate an outfit on any occasion, however there are certain things that should be known. To begin, mixing metals should be avoided as much as possible; however if done properly, it can look amazing. In order to accomplish this, you should have an equal amount of each metal included. Secondly, try to mix and match different shapes and sizes. By doing this, it allows for diversity in jewelry. Then, you should have different lengths. Usually, this pertains to necklaces and by doing this, it displays each one individually around your neck. Lastly, try to maintain a balance because you don’t want too many statement pieces and try to distribute it evenly.
“You need to have a good balance,” Corpuz said. “You can’t have too many jewels, you can’t have too much chunky jewelry, but then if you want a good stack, it also can’t be too dainty, so a good balance is needed.”
When it comes to stacking jewelry, there are certain things to follow. However, metal mixing is slightly different. First, layering is key so for example multiple bracelets or a few rings on your finger. Next, create a balance by wearing an equal amount of silver pieces as gold pieces. Then, try to incorporate a two-toned piece, this piece should have two different metals so it serves as a bridge for single colored metals. Lastly, don’t feel afraid to experiment. In many scenarios, experimentation looks amazing as long as not too much is done.
“I always do gold, but I think if someone can pull off both gold and silver, that’s amazing and it can be really cute,” Kaitlyn Place (9) said.
Mixing metals is also another amazing way to stack jewelry. Now that jewelry has been on the rise, it’s not expected to disappear. However, jewelry is another way for one to express themselves. As long as certain precautions and steps are taken, any outfit can be accentuated by stacking jewelry and mixing your metals. Overall, one should wear whatever jewelry feels best on them and stacking it will just make it look better.
