Senior events: Are early ticket prices valid?

As students head into the end of the first semester, many begin to wonder whether ticket sales for senior events such as prom or the Disneyland trip are too early.

For Ayala seniors, their last year of high school is a time to make memories, and that comes with monumental events such as prom and the senior trip. Both events are set to be in the spring, near the end of the year, yet the ticket sales for both events are available for purchase for seniors now for a discounted price.

For senior events specifically, the ticket sales have started in the beginning of November, which is a lot earlier than many seniors have recalled from prior years. Administration has promoted discounted ticket sales from now until the end of the calendar year.

“I think this early ticket sale adds a little pressure on students to decide whether they want to go to the event or not because they may question if it’s worth committing to an event so far in advance,” Miranda Castro (12) said.

From November 1 to January 1, prom ticket prices are $95 with a USB card and $105 without one. From then on, tickets go up by $5 for that current time frame. Prom is currently set to be on April 12, 2025 but the location has not been determined, which could or could not affect ticket sales as of right now.

The senior Disneyland trip is planned for May 14, 2025 yet the ticket sales are also in progress for an “early action” and discounted price. On the Ayala Webstore, the ticket is listed as $185 for a package of both the park hopper ticket and the bus ticket.

Though many want to commemorate their senior year with fun memories that capture their last year of high school, and of childhood, all these events (most of them being held close to in date) can easily build up in price.

The conflict of whether to buy a ticket in advance for the discounted price, or to wait for the price to go up with more clarity on whether a student wants to commit to that event is a conflict many students are currently going through.

“I think that the advantages are being able to secure a ticket without short notice and for a cheaper price,” Riley Ferreira (12) said. “[But] for those who procrastinate [since they have] so much time to buy a ticket, they wait, which will just increase the price and risk of them being sold out.”

These early ticket sales, especially for the senior Disneyland trip, surprised many seniors because of the controversy with the senior trip rumored to be canceled or not. Yet this announcement confirmed the event as something that is actually happening for seniors.

Though there are advantages and disadvantages to starting ticket sales for senior events early in the school year, many things factor into a student’s decision to actually buy that ticket and therefore secure their spot for the event: whether their friends are going, price inflation in the later months, location, etc.

Factoring these in, many students believe that a better time to start selling tickets is a few months before the actual event, as it gives them enough time to decide whether to go to the event or not, but still provide leeway to get things ready.

“I believe two to three months prior to an event is the best time to sell tickets,” Alyssa Serafin (12) said. “By this time frame, it will ensure more students will sustain their excitement for the event.”

Despite personal preferences, some of the senior events have started to sell tickets, and it’s the student’s decision if they want to buy them now, or wait to buy their tickets until later.
