As students start to walk into Mr. Al Massoum’s classroom, he waits for them at the door with a big smile and a high-five ready for his student. As more and more students start to pile in, he hands out the worksheet the students need to finish for that day. With a huge heart and passion for math, he makes the classroom environment extra enjoyable for the students as they are allowed to interact with friends to solve problems and work together. 

His creative methods of teaching the class and the freedom he gives his students plays a big role on how the students are able to learn in his class. Zoey Lepo (9), a student of his, explains that his class makes learning math so much more enjoyable.

“What I love about Mr. Massoum is that he puts all his time and effort into every individual student, and he spends his own money trying to provide goods for us and make class even more enjoyable every single day,” Lepo said. “He’s a great teacher and you can see through his actions and work he puts into everything that he really cares about his students.” 

Many of his students just love being in the class and learning math. On top of all of the effort Massoum puts into his everyday life, he provides food for his students from time to time.

“I love to deliver food, such as donuts, to some of my former students’ classrooms in order to spread kindness and show how just a little bit of kindness and show how just the tiniest bit of kindness and effort can help others by a lot more,” Massoum said.

Not only his actions, but Massoum’s kindness in his teaching makes him one of the many favored teachers around campus. 

“With his help and teaching, I am better able to stabilize my knowledge for Integrated Math 1 and with that, I could master the concepts and learning goals in that class,” Jenny Hu (9) said. 

In Massoum’s consistent work to make sure his students and former students get the best experience in math, he is always working above and beyond to make it enjoyable for everyone.

“I just hope that I can spread more kindness and show people that being kind really goes a long way and can affect people for the better,” Massoum said.

Massoum’s diligence to be the best teacher possible allows him to be positive about everything and love his students. Through his constant hard work and efforts to get to know his students, he is one the most beloved teachers among students. 

“I really wish my students can learn to be kind and happy whatever the situation and always stay positive,” Massoum said.
