The California League of Educators is a special program where teachers can be chosen to be a part of their training and resources to better support and help students. In order to be a part of this program, teachers need to be chosen by the people at the program. There are only six finalist positions and our beloved Mrs. Lin Guo, the chinese teacher, has been selected and invited to be a part of this association.
“This acknowledgment reflects not only my efforts, but also the dedication of my students and the incredible support system within my educational community,” Guo said. “It serves as an encouragement for me to continue striving for excellence in education.”
Guo has been a beloved teacher for many years now and has the heart of many students. Some of her former students such as Joy Zhu (12) and an officer at one of the clubs that Guo is an advisor for, Cindy Situ (11), tells us how amazing Guo really is.
“When I was a freshman I would always talk to her about high school, she gave me advice on how to adapt to high school life, and [gave] really great advice on high school in general,” Zhu said.
With Guo having had taught the Mandarin program for many years, she’s not only been a teacher, but an advisor for clubs that embrace language learning.
“As an officer in one of her clubs, she is very flexible, nice, and supportive,” Situ said.
Despite having to watch and advise many clubs, Guo is a teacher able to do it all from also teaching Mandarin 2, 3 Honors, and AP, helping students in AP Mandarin get 100% rates for the past 10 years. She is part of the Board of Directors for the Chinese American Teachers Association and many more.
“My nomination came from Mrs. Yarboi, who recommended me for this honor,” Guo said. “The selection was based on my contributions to student success, my impact on the community, and my achievements in teaching.”
Guo’s continuous support for the students have led many kids feel compelled to come back and help her continue being the best teacher she is.
“I think instead of helping her, it’s more helping the students learn Chinese because sometimes grading so many papers is hard for her to give students feedback, but when I help her read the papers and help grade, it’s easier for me to give specific feedback on certain things,” Zhu said.
As a much loved teacher and person around all of the Ayala High School community, we are very proud to say that Mrs. Guo has been chosen to be a part of the California League of Educators.
“Teaching isn’t just a job for me—it’s my passion,” Guo said. “My favorite part is seeing my students’ progress as they go from knowing nothing about the Chinese language to becoming confident speakers, readers, and writers.”
