As the 2024 came to a close, there is no doubt that many saw a rise in past trends from decades ago. This is a common occurrence that happens almost every year. Of the trends last year, most circulated in fashion. Fashion trends were constantly changing, with the growth of fashion aesthetics and the rise of micro trends. The return of older trends may have been difficult to recognize, but they did not go unnoticed.
Fashion
To begin, one of the biggest comebacks of the year was the diverse lineup of bottoms. Previously, skinny jeans were some of the most common pants worn. Now, the times have changed to where many wear pants with wide openings and nearly cover one’s whole shoe for the reason of comfort. Another type of pants that have returned are flare jeans and similarly, bell bottoms. These pants were previously popular in the 70s and 80s and unfortunately died down until 2024. In 2024, these pants made a huge comeback especially in female fashion.
Another fashion trend that returned were leather and bomber jackets. With the overall rise of baggy clothes, leather jackets had a comeback paired with the rise of street-wear clothes. Many added this jacket as a finishing touch to an already amazing outfit to give it another interesting element. Similar to the rise of leather jackets, bomber jackets also grew. Bomber jackets are very different from that of leather jackets, but since work-wear took a large rise in popularity, it was not surprising to see bomber jackets return.
Technology
Continuing on a lot of the growth from previous decades came from electronics. For example, wired headphones prospered in popularity. This may come to a shock for many since of the expansion of technology and devices (for example, AirPods) being so widely used. Wired headphones have come a long way from their previous usage with the iPod. But now, many find this type of technology as an agreeable accessory that serves a great purpose on a daily basis.
Throughout the decades, photography has been an amazing method for many to keep a physical memory. Now, iPhones have several cameras on their devices for perfect pictures, and there are also Polaroid cameras that produce a physical photo immediately. However, last year many made the transition from Polaroids to small digital cameras. Most of the reason for this transition was because of the ‘nostalgic’ filter that cameras have, making photos look much more lively than on a phone. In order to accomplish this, it was common to buy older cameras and begin your own photography journey.
As it is known, music is a big part of anyone’s life and for many, it is enjoyed digitally through a variety of streaming services available. However, there was a big spike in the use of vinyl records and CD’s (Compact Disks). In 2024, physical copies of albums rose in popularity due to the fact that many found the quality of audio to be better. Physical music also took off as it was a gateway for many to start their own collection, which is able to display their personality based on their taste in music. Previously, vinyls and CDs were the only way to enjoy music, but now it acts as an extra option for listeners to enjoy their music.
Now as 2025 begins, there will be even more growth of different trends for anyone to enjoy that was previously seen in different decades. Although, a large part of every generation is loosely built on previous generations, there are new trends constantly being developed. 2024 was a great year to remember as it brought so many new things to the generation of today and provided a great memory for those who experienced the same trends as a teenager.
