Coaching comes with many responsibilities, challenges, and obstacles that can seem intimidating to most but how you respond to those obstacles is what defines someone as a great coach. Ayala’s Amy Campbell, a coach who has shown much dedication to what she does, and the head coach of the girls flag football team, has just recently been awarded the Los Angeles Rams Girls’ Flag High School Coach of the Year award.

Campbell was among three other high school girls’ flag football coaches in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern California section to receive the Coach of the year award. The award was presented at the Rams game on December 28. The Girls’ Flag High School Coach of the Year Award honors coaches who have demonstrated skills such as leadership and sportsmanship, and those who have had successes on and off the field. The award was presented by the Rams in the Community organization, which is affiliated with the popular National Football League (NFL) team, the Los Angeles Rams.

The Los Angeles Rams have become very well known for not just their NFL status, but also their big part in giving back to the community. For many years, the Los Angeles Rams have become engaged in the community through their Rams in the Community organization. The organization focuses on providing opportunities for those less fortunate and making sure that everyone is treated fairly throughout the Los Angeles community.

The Rams in the Community organization has many organizations built into its overall program that specialize in helping the community reach their full potential. From helping small businesses grow, helping the less fortunate, donating to different charities across the Los Angeles area, donating sports equipment to schools, and to honoring and showcasing coaches, the Rams in the Community organization truly does it all.

With girls’ flag football becoming a very popular sport in many high schools throughout the country, the Rams in the Community organization has made sure to include flag football in their organization. From hosting tournaments to giving out awards, flag football has become a prominent part of the Rams in the Community organization.

At Ayala, this school year was the year that Ayala held its inaugural flag football season. Both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams participated in multiple games against many different schools and took part in different tournaments. The Varsity team even took part in a tournament started by the Rams in the Community called the Los Angeles Rams Jamboree. The girls flag football team’s inaugural season went very well and the program even made it to CIF.

The success of the inaugural season could not have happened however without Campbell’s support and dedication. Campbell has been both a coach and teacher at Ayala for many years and has coached multiple different sports but never flag football. The sport, though becoming a recently added sport, has changed both the lives of the players who participate in it and the life of Campbell.

“It’s been a huge impact on my life. It’s brought joy back into coaching, I feel like I have a fire that I used to have that had kind of gone dormant,” Campbell said.

All in all, both Ayala and the girls’ flag football team is very proud of Campbell for winning an award that was very much deserved. Campbell shows to others how dedication and love for a sport can help you not only succeed in coaching but outside of the field as well.

“It really motivated me to be better at what I’m doing in every aspect of my life, not just coaching, but in teaching and as a person,” Campbell said.
