Valentine’s Day is just right around the corner, and there is no better way to express your feelings than through the power of music. From timeless classics to modern hits, love songs hold a special place in our hearts, capturing emotions words often cannot. Whether it’s a song that is the ‘background music’ of a certain memory, the lyrics that perfectly sum up how you feel about someone, or maybe just a song that a person genuinely loves, love songs are the soundtrack to some of life’s most meaningful moments.

“blue” by yung kai

“I’ll imagine we fell in love

I’ll nap under moonlight skies with you

I think I’ll picture us, you with the waves”

“The inspiration of this song comes from a drama I’ve been liking since it came out,” Heaven Penaflor (9) said. “When I listened to it, the feelings reminded me of what I felt while watching the drama.”

Inspired by the Chinese drama, “When I Fly Towards You,” “blue” depicts the emotion of yearning onto a fading memory. The lyrics, instrumentals, melody, and concepts are heavily inspired by the drama. The lyrics reimagine famous, memorable scenes in the show, which makes it so loved by many.

yung kai writes about the feeling of young, teenage love, which resembles the overall idea of “puppy love.” The show itself revolves around two high school students and the growth of their relationship, following the golden retriever and black cat trope. The vivid imagery creates moments that many people crave for in relationships.

“My Love Mine All Mine” by Mitski

“Moon, tell me if I could

Send up my heart to you?

So, when I die, which I must do

Could it shine down here with you?”

“It shows me that love is beautiful and amazing, [and] it truly needs to be shown,” Chi Vu (9) said. “ It’s about how much you deeply love them and show appreciation to them.”

“My Love Mine All Mine” was one of the biggest singles back in 2023, trending on almost every single social media platform, especially on TikTok. There are many different takes on the song’s meaning, yet the overall message that all fans could agree on is the human ability to love.

In the song, Mitski sings to the moon, asking that when she dies, if it could shine her love back down on Earth. Mitski herself said she wrote this song as a believer that love is an unlimited resource that nobody can take away from anyone, and that when she passes on, she hopes to leave her love with us. Although the song can be about a romantic relationship, Mitski wrote it to be about anything and anyone. This song can be about mother and child, friends, or even a single person.

“Glue Song” by beabadoobee (ft. Clairo)

“I’ve never known someone like you

Tangled in love, stuck by you

From the glue”

“This song feels very connected to my heart as it describes a deep connection between two people, sticking to each other like glue,” Vivian Pham (9) said.

“Glue Song” is one of the most heartwarming and light-hearted songs in the world, as the lyrics depict the feeling of overflowing love. With the use of the metaphor of “glue,” beabadoobee beautifully conveys a connection so unbreakable that it feels eternal. The lyrics reflect a love that binds two souls together in a way that’s both tender and indestructible.

Love is a very subjective and personal experience, and not everyone has the same meaning for the word. For some, love is quiet comfort, an intense passion, or bold and consuming. What makes love so different for everyone is how it evolves through personal experiences, backgrounds, and the unique bond two people share.

Ultimately, love is a reflection of who we are, how we feel, and the way we relate to the world and each other.
