Welcome back to the second edition for Dear Bulldog! For this week, we took up two students who discussed personal or external issues with school, and we tried our best to answer back.
Dear Bulldog,
My math class is an experience that would be considered lousy. The room is barely decorated and gives off a cold, corporate vibe. All the other students are carrying it as they tell jokes with each other while lightening the mood, which I’ll admit I enjoy, but that’s what is saving it from being 100% dreary. I do the Delta Math work well and when I need help, my friends help me, but the overall room atmosphere just reeks of being unpleasant to be in. If anything, this class is the only time I’ve ever felt as if it’s a place where imagination and creativity die. Math in previous years was never like this as the rooms did not feel as if Mr. Krupp from Captain Underpants designed it. Do you have any comments to say about it?
Sincerely,
Sad Miku
Dear Sad Miku,
I most definitely feel for you in your sorrows in math class. Although your math class may be lousy, there are definitely solutions for you to make this period much more bearable. One thing I would try to do is to attempt to make a few more friends in that class. If you are able to, try chatting with the other students near you. They might not only make the class slightly more cheerful, but they can also become life long partners.
With how dull the room is, there is not much you can do to fix this. I would recommend bringing colorful school supplies like bright highlighters and pens. With these at hand, you can use them to bring color to your notes, but it can also work as a boost of serotonin just by looking at them.
Finally, I believe that it may be better to distract yourself to something more joyful if the class ever becomes too lousy. Depending on how strict your teacher may be, you could read a book, journal your thoughts, or simply make your own jokes with your friends. It may be difficult at first to find joy, but if it becomes a routine of yours, you may find yourself enjoying the class very soon.
Sincerely,
Bulldog

Dear Bulldog,
how do I get more motivation for school?
Sincerely,
alpharizzler9th
Dear alpharizzler9th,
I understand the stress that comes with being a 9th grader. I don’t know what areas you’re specifically struggling with, however here are some tips to hopefully help you with them:
Remember your ‘why:’ Take a moment to think about the following; What sparked your working side? What parts of it do you love the most? What are your achievements once you complete your studies?
Celebrate your small study goals: Make sure to celebrate the little wins along the way, not just the big achievements. Recognizing your smaller study goals can really help keep your motivation up!
Set up a study plan: Whatever your end goal is, you’ll find yourself far more motivated to study if you have a plan to keep you on track. Don’t make it too strict, give yourself some leniency.
Avoid procrastination: Hide your phone, Find a quiet room to study, don’t push yourself to do too many things, and focus on one piece of work at a time.
I have faith that you’ll get through this, just follow these steps, and keep moving forward. Don’t worry, it gets easier in the upper grades. Good luck!
Sincerely,
Bulldog
