As 11th graders are preparing for the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) testing, the math department has prepared fundraisers, gift cards, and coupons with many different businesses for CAASPP to make sure they have the resources needed to succeed and help the students succeed as well. The first fundraiser was held at 7 Leaves, a boba shop in The Shoppes, from March 13 to the 14. Many teachers gave this opportunity to allow the students to get extra credit if they went to get a drink and support this fundraiser.

Many students went to this fundraiser to get the extra credit given to them by their teachers. Students like Zoey Lepo (9), Bia Wang (9), and Kate Lee (9), all waited in the extremely long line to get their drinks and extra credit. Many students said it was very successful because of this opportunity given to them.

“The line was about an hour long, which proves that there were a lot of students who were willing to go to 7 Leaves for the 10 points extra credit and to support CAASPP testing,” Wang said.

Lots of students had to wait a long time because of the line and they also had to wait a while for their drinks.

“In the beginning, I went to get some boba at 4 in the afternoon but the line was so long that I had to go back hours later, which was around 7, to not wait in line and get my drinks,” Lee said.

With all these students lining up for hours to help support this, it gave the store and CAASPP a chance to raise lots of money.

“I think it’s important to have events like these to promote the CAASPP testing because it makes students encouraged to do better on testing and get a delicious treat while they are at it,” Lepo said.

Through this fundraiser, many students hope to see how raising money has impacted the tests. With testing just right around the corner, we hope to see some improvements. It is very important to have these kinds of fundraisers to help support our growing learning environment.

“I feel like these events are beneficial to promote things like CAASPP because students learn about the cause for the event and it doesn’t just help the teachers with fundraising. It also helps the students engage with school activities,” Wang said.

Thanks to the efforts made by students and teachers, 7 Leaves has raised significant funds to support CAASPP testing. The event not only provided financial support, but also reinforced the importance of academic success and community involvement. As students get ready to take state testing, they can do so knowing that all the money raised was put into helping them succeed. With the successes of the fundraiser, many hope to see similar efforts in the future to continue supporting education and student achievement.
