On Friday, May 2, the Ayala choir program presented their annual Spring Choir Concert from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the school’s Multi-Purpose Room (MPR). In this hour-long performance, singers from all of the different choirs joined together and sang beautiful melodies for their last concert of the school year, bringing back precious memories and evoking emotion.

This choir performance is the last performance ever for the senior students in the program, making this concert extra emotional not only for the seniors, but for the whole program and the audience as well. The memories from all of the past performances rise to the surface and break through with the different songs.

“I’ve learned so much from the seniors, not just musically but personally too,” choir section leader Madeline Lubangco (11) said. “They’ve been such strong role models, and it’s hard to imagine choir without them. But I’m also excited to carry on what they’ve taught us and help create that same sense of community for future members.”

To help make sure the concert ran smoothly, the different choirs would constantly practice and rehearse for about an hour to two hours daily. The day before the performance, the choirs rehearsed for three hours, getting extra practice before the show.

“Our schedule is very well-organized thanks to Mr. Davis, who treats our program with a professional standard and prepares us for a collegiate-level experience,” choir publicity officer Brooklyn Arteaga (11) said.

The show started off with performances from each of the different choir groups, displaying their unique skills and techniques including the vocal set with the song “Hela Rotan” with a little bit of choreography to help make it more personal.

“I think the concert went really well, each group gave a strong performance, and the support from everyone was incredible,” Arteaga said. “It’s always fun to watch all the ensembles come together and see how much progress we’ve made.”

The concert ended with the final song “Yellow” by Coldplay, not only closing out the spring concert, but the choir season as a whole. The emotions and memories that came from this concert will be remembered forever, and the students who entered the program at the beginning of the year who started as classmates now exit as friends.

“I have been really lucky to have such a strong senior class to look up to in the program so the last choir concert with them was bittersweet,” choir member Kayla Huizar (11) said. “I’m really proud of the music we were able to make this year and I feel that the last concert is a reflection of everything we have been through together.”
