The 22nd of May marks the final day of school for students at Ayala High School. There is still a rough path to the very last day, as there are some lingering AP tests, especially the seniors who graduate early. Students count the final days until the last while stressing for the final exams as their semester grades are put into the gradebook. Although the road may be rocky, the last day is a very exciting day to many.
It brings back the joy of waiting for the final bell to ring, to kiss school goodbye for a long time. With two whole months of leisure time given to students, they’re faced with a big problem. How would students spend their summer vacation?
As it turns out, many students, eager for the summer, have already planned and mapped out their vacation. Even though it’s an appropriate time to hang around or have fun, it’s also an opportunity to have growth. Many students (especially the juniors and seniors) are starting their path into adulthood by obtaining their driver’s license.
“I expect to get my license, work on myself, stay in the gym, help out family and friends,” said Calvin Villegas (11). “[Also, I plan to] work more at my job, and get my [money] up.”
It’s not just an opportunity to strengthen personal life, but also to strengthen themselves academically. Not all students favor doing more school work over the summer, but some express interest in taking summer courses to help themselves achieve a better position in the long run.
“I plan to do summer classes at Mt. Sac (Mt. San Antonio College),” said Mak Apo (11). “I am planning to work on a project to build something.”
With a lot of time for students to do whatever, most days are spent doing more leisure entertainment and activities. Video games are a popular activity that take up most of the day, as well as more time to attend facilities like the gym. It also provides an opportunity to have an ideal proper day for students, who’s schedule was once heavily impacted by school.
“I wake up at 8 AM, shower, have breakfast, play some video games,” said Anthony Esparza (11). “Then I’ll have lunch, go to the gym, shower, have dinner, and sleep by 10 PM.”
Most summer fun times that people like to do would be to typically hang out with friends, go to vacation spots like the beach or amusement parks.
“They’ll probably go swim, hang out with friends, play video games and use their time to just do whatever they want,” said Villegas.
Aside from doing whatever they want, there are those who plan to travel to far away places, just for the experience, or to get outside more, or to catch up with family and friends. For some students, that’s exactly what some plan to do.
“[I plan to] get my driver’s license and drive to the beach with my closest friends,” said Esparza.
Summer is around the corner and students are excited to enter vacation. As a new class of freshmen prepare for their high school journey from their journey through middle school. As we say farewell to our graduating senior class of 2025, students enjoy the brief period of relaxation. Ayala High School will be looking forward to seeing students learn in class again next August.
