On Wednesday, August 25, the official cast list for this school year’s first theater production, “Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon,” was announced. This cast list was in the works for weeks, coming across conflicts with the change of teachers. After the first round of auditions with former drama teacher Mrs. Madeleine Sherratt, the first draft of the cast list was constructed. However, when she passed the torch to Mr. Jaime Tintor, he wanted to make his own casting decisions based on his own first impressions of the students. Eventually, with time, patience, and personal effort to get to know every cast member, Tintor was able to finalize the official cast list.
After meeting Tintor for the first time during their first full read-through of the script, each cast member was biting their nails at the thought of who they were going to play. However, that anxiety was proven unnecessary as all the cast members turned out to be quite satisfied with the roles they were assigned.
“I think as rehearsals go on, I understand why he cast it the way he did, and I really like it,” cast member Lilian Kang (10) said. “It’s cool to see everyone grow.”
With a wide variety of accents, personalities, and body language traits required for each character, along with a large variety of unique talents and faces, it’s safe to say Tintor had a difficult time deciding which actor best fit each character. Although the cast members do believe that his decisions were well thought out, there was no doubt that some actors would have been satisfied if their names belonged to other characters as well.
“I was cast as King number one and dwarf number one,” cast member Luna Maciel (11) said. “[But] playing one of the narrators would be fun because of their energy and how they move the story along.”
Each actor has proven their gratuity towards the cast list with their efforts during rehearsals. Tintor has been working tirelessly on making sure every actor shines in their own specific role. At every rehearsal, he closely analyzes the character choices and movements of each actor and gives them advice on how to improve their execution of each line and stage direction. Each actor takes direction very well, determined to put on their best performance.
“Mr. Tintor gave me such an emphasis on understanding the story and kind of finding the tone you’re supposed to give off at that moment,” cast member Vivian Pham (10) said. “Whatever he gave me was really helpful.“
These actors are currently working very hard at perfecting their roles for the upcoming three-day performance. Come and see them shine from Thursday, October 23 to Saturday, October 25 to support the theater program.
