On September 10, Ayala’s Junior Varsity (JV) girls volleyball team set the tone for this year’s season during their first league game against Bonita’s Bearcats. The game took place at Bonita’s home gym, the Bulldogs fighting through to win 2-0.

In the first set, Bonita initially led by several points with their solid defense and aggressive offense. Stuck in serve receive, Ayala struggled to find their footing until Bonita, almost halfway to 25, finally lost their momentum. The Bulldogs quickly made up for their lost points, ending the set with a close score of 25-21.

Coming out for the second set, both teams were eager to give their everything to triumph. Still, Ayala’s consistency and determination did not falter, resulting in another exciting set of 25-18 for the Bulldogs. The girls’ defense especially stood out as Devin Miller (10) scored with three blocks, along with Kaitlyn Place (10) passing dime after dime throughout the game.

With the massive success of both JV’s preseason and first league game, they are prepared to place among the high scores during the Whittier Girls Volleyball Tournament this Saturday and their next upcoming league game on Monday against Glendora.
