With the 2025 to 2026 school year officially started, the sophomore class officers of 2028 were elected on March 21, and there were a handful of people who had run for various positions. The campus was decorated with creative and colorful posters everywhere, with the spirit of the candidates who were running. Multiple people who were running had created videos using social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram to promote themselves. During this process, the candidates showed their loyalty to the other students on campus by helping out around the school to show their leadership qualities.

After the votes, the 2028 sophomore class officers were decided:

President: Preston Tukay

Vice President: Madelynn Tsai

Secretary: Emily Min

Social Chair: Makayla Kiddoo

With every strong class comes a leader, and for the class of 2028, that leader is Preston Tukay, the sophomore class president. Tukay explained that what drew him to the role was the opportunity to represent his peers and bring energy to school events.

“It was mostly about socializing and representing my class,” said Tukay. “I wanted to make posters, help at rallies and games, and just make sure our class is really spirited. That’s what inspired me”

One of his biggest goals this year is to lead the class in creating a memorable homecoming float. This homecoming float stood out among the other decorations, with its loud, yet eye-appealing colors and overall design that made students’ pictures even more vibrant.

“I really wanted our homecoming float to look amazing, and I want our rally posters to stand out and be really well done,” Tukay added.

Supporting alongside the president is the class vice president, Madelynn Tsai, who stepped into the role after seeing how much work and pride her fellow peers put into leadership last year as class officers.

“Last year I saw my friends as officers and I liked how hard they worked,” said Tsai. “Our posters always looked really nice, and I wanted to help make sure they keep looking their best while also bringing more spirit to our class.”

For Tsai, the challenge of running for office came down to the timing. Undertaking the job of vice president already meant additional work, but what pressured Tsai even more were the deadlines to satisfy the student body events.

“I had everything planned out but I didn’t do it until the last minute, so I was definitely in a time crunch,” Tsai admitted.

Despite the challenges, Tsai still looks forward to rallies, football games, and school events, and hopes to balance her leadership responsibilities with her academics this year.

“She’s always putting in effort,” Maxwell Tsai (10), Madelynn’s brother, said. “She really works hard for her class, even when she gets stressed, and it shows.”

With all of the major roles, there is also a role that is greatly needed to help things run smoothly, which was the secretary position given to Min.

Min had expressed that she had wanted this position to keep up with her leadership position she has always wanted. From watching years pass with new class officers to lead the class of 2028, Min was inspired to take on this demanding task to challenge herself.

“I wanted to take on this role and apply for my tenth grade year because I always thought that I had leadership values, although sometimes I struggle to take on that role,” said Min. “I just thought that taking this role will help me get involved in this school and help me just build my characteristics for future things.”

Min’s position has clearly been having an effect on students throughout the grade, inspiring others to step out from their comfort zone and to try something new. Those close with Min have witnessed this change on campus and in Min herself, all feeling strongly that this position is perfect for her.

“I think that this job is made for Emily because she is a natural born leader. People listen to her, and she has the many characteristics of being a secretary,” said Zoey Lepo (10).

All of positions are needed to keep the sophomore class going, but there also needs to be a social chair who keeps the class up to date with any major school events. That perosn is Kiddoo.

“I wanted to take on this position because I wanted to be more involved with my class, and I enjoy social media and I thought that I would be a good fit for making our social media more exciting and pleasant,” said Kiddoo.

After all of this hard work to get people to vote for them, Tukay, Tsai, Min, and Kiddoo, have successfully made it. This class of 2028 class officers hope to bring lots of school spirit and lead this class to success.
