Hispanic Heritage Doors Contest brings cultural creativity


Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter, was the sole inspiration for long-term substitute Mr. Pablo Iñiguez’s choice for the Hispanic Heritage Month contest.

Ms. Lara Alsaid’s class chose iconic pop singer Selena for her mural.
“Even if you don’t speak Spanish, Selena’s music speaks to you and carries so much emotion that even you understand,” Alsaid said.

Mr. Luis Urena’s door for the Hispanic Heritage contest features the likeness of Canelo Álvarez, a Mexican professional boxer who has amassed an impressive 63 wins over his 20-year career.

Mrs. Mariana Jolly’s class admires their choice of Sandra Cisneros, a renowned Latina writer. She is most known for her first novel, “The House on Mango Street.”

Mrs. Amanda Liebesman, Mr. Art Boren’s long-term substitute, showcases her depiction of the renowned actor and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda. He is known for creating one of the most popular musicals in history, “Hamilton.”

Ms. Neyeli Ramos features Fernando Valenzuela, a Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher who dominated during an monumental time for the Latino fan base.

Mrs. Sheena Draucker’s choice highlights another Latino Major League Baseball player, Alex Rodriguez, who is also known as “A-Rod.”

Mrs. Zorayda Larios decided to depict Hispanic Heritage with Bad Bunny, a Puerto Rican singer and rapper. He is scheduled to be the first Latin male ever to perform at the 2026 NFL Super Bowl.

Carolina Herrera, a Venezuelan fashion designer, is in the spotlight on Profesora Sandra Alves’s door. Herrera has grown her company to become one of the most famous global brands.

Mrs. Katlyn Trevino’s choice showcases Helen Rodríguez Trías, a women’s rights activist and the first Latina president of the American Public Health Association.

Jose M. Hernandez, a Mexican engineer and NASA astronaut who was on a 14-day space trip, is on Ms. Lonna Rojas’s door.

Spanish artist, Joan Miro, known for his extravagant and surrealist art style, is the choice for Mrs. Eileen Tse’s door.
