Though the air gets chillier as the year progresses into autumn, there is an undeniable feeling of warmth in the air. A cup of coffee thawing frozen fingertips, a blanket wrapped snugly around a figure as they re-watch their seasonal favorites, or even the almost physical feeling of the love and joy in the corner of every moment, makes the colder weather actually feel quite warm. It is this sensation that truly makes the fall season feel like the welcoming, warm hug it is.

The Bulldog Times staff greatly enjoyed reviewing all the gorgeous art pieces submitted for the contest and struggled with only picking three winners. The winners listed are in no particular order and are all equal to one another. For all those talented participants, do not be discouraged. We hope to see your work again! Without further ado, here are the winners!

Interpretation of warmth through the light of an angel

by Eleanor Tsai

“The vibrant colors and the attention to detail on this picture were incredible and something I did not believe was even possible to draw. Every part of this picture was perfect, and the colors used and the light in her hands along with her hair allowed for this picture to be unique,” staff writer Camilo Carmona (11) said.

“I like the use of the hands being towards the heart, as if she’s ‘holding her heart,’ and the fact that it is the lightest and warmest part of the picture. The use of the warm colors and tones in the picture also brings that warm feeling that the artist was most likely trying to capture,” Features Editor Estelle Ignacio (10) said.

Dawn of a Bright “To Be”
by Klarissa Cullum

“This beautiful piece really encapsulates what it is to become a new person and step into a new light. Through the bright colors that highlight the face of the figure and the darkness behind it, it represents what this figure is leaving behind,” staff writer Nicholas Tovmasyan (10) said.

“The first thing that caught my eye about this piece was the use of color. With the warm hues of red, orange, and yellow, it provides an intriguing contrast between the light and dark. I love the way the paint strokes look, having a comforting, home-made kind of look,” Alexa Corpuz (10), staff writer, said.

A consummate boy, his future envelopes him. Moving forward quickly, he advances toward the great. Looking in, you notice the dark behind his left shoulder; he has tossed the memory of where he started. You reflect about your own accomplishments. Have you too disregarded your past, and if so, was it for the better? Maybe the light is a gift from the dark we overcame. The warm isn’t so scary anymore, I feel content. (Klarissa Cullum)

Dismissing Halloween
by Ava Ryan

“I like how cozy this image is and it makes me feel nostalgic almost because of the classic Garfield character. The image is detailed and has a lot of warm elements in it, such as the fire and the overall color scheme,” Social Media Manager Laila Kumar (11) said.

“Ultimately, I like the cartoon aspect to this and how sentimental it can make the viewers feel. I liked the artist’s interpretation of warmth consisting of quality time with yourself and the joys of hot chocolate. I liked the Easter eggs incorporated into the piece with the Sanderson Sisters from ‘Hocus Pocus’ and the Trick or Treaters from ‘The Nightmare before Christmas.’ This piece made me refer back to my childhood and the movies that characterized the nostalgia of Halloween,” staff writer Olivia Rivera (11) said.
