On May 1, 2026, Ayala High School’s choir program took the stage for their second to last performance of the year right before their seniors headed off to college. Throughout every performance by each ensemble, emotions were shared that filled the room. Although the moment was extremely emotional, their performances were impeccable. The whole night was filled with both known songs and unknown songs. Additionally, the Ayala High School choir brought the Canyon Hills Junior High School choir. With shared emotions and amazing performances, the night was one that anyone could enjoy.
To begin, the Canyon Hills Choir came out to give a last, spectacular performance as their director, Mrs. Iacopetti, plans to retire at the end of the school year. As her way of saying goodbye she chose music from musicals for her students to perform. Although it was extremely emotional for herself and her students, the performance was stunning nonetheless.
For every spring concert for the Ayala Choir, there are traditions that are carried every year. For the Jazz Ensemble they performed the song “Fly Away Birdie” where someone had an improved solo that the director announced during the performance. Additionally, for Vocal Ensemble, the student directors were able to pick one song, teach it and direct it during their performance. The current student directors, Madelene Lubangco (12) and Gaby Ladrido (12) gave one last emotional performance before their final bow.
Finally, at the end of the concert, instead of just bringing up the Ayala Concert Choir for the final performance, both the Ayala Mixed Choir and Concert Choir came up to the stage. On stage, they both performed the song known as “The Awakening”. The first half of the song is about a dream with no joy filled with complete silence. Then, in the second half, an individual wakes up and the world is filled with joy and music. Although the stage is filled with a greater number of people than usual, they all were able to bring a great performance.
Now that the school year begins to come to an end, there is only one more performance left for the Ayala Choir. The Spring Concert was filled with many great and extremely emotional performances. As seniors begin to pack their things for graduation it is now the time to begin to say goodbye. Additionally, it has been a great season for the Ayala Choir, and each and every student has enjoyed their memories with each other, leaving room for one last performance which took place at their annual Candlelight performance on May 8, 2026.
