During last Tuesday’s home game, the Ayala’s girls Junior Varsity (JV) team ended the 2024 volleyball season with a final win against Bonita’s Bearcats.
The game ended on a memorable note for both the audience and the JV team as it was their third time playing against the Bearcats. The first game was a Bulldog victory during the championship round of Ayala’s annual Jeff Chandler Memorial Tournament. However, during their first league game against one another, Bonita had made an unexpected comeback at their home gym, ending what had been Ayala’s undefeated streak. Fortunately, our Bulldogs were able to come back for the second and final league game with the Bearcats, winning overall 2-1.
In the first set, Bonita started off strong and won the set with a tight score of 25-22 to them. Despite their temporary loss, the Bulldogs had not been deterred, instead coming back and winning the second set 25-23.
With a victory secured by both teams, the gym was brimming with energy as the JV teams entered their third set. It had seemed that the Bearcats would win as the game began with Ayala unable to get out of the first rotation. Yet, once they had finally moved onto the next serving rotation, the Bulldogs began to win point after point without giving Bonita an inch. The third set eventually ended with a score of 15-8 in Ayala’s favor.
After JV’s victory, the celebration did not end there. With this game being the last of the 2024 season, the volleyball program held their Senior Night for the six seniors in the Varsity team: Co-captain and Outside Hitter Abigail Domingo, Co-captain and Setter Alyssa Hodges, Co-captain and Libero Jordan Balingit, Outside Hitter Kaitlyn Min, Right-side Taelor Walker, and Middle Blocker Riley Ferreira.
Though the Varsity team was unable to win against Bonita, the Bulldogs were still able to put on an amazing performance, finishing with an unforgettable game to close the 2024 season.
