Witnessing the rise of the famed cookies themselves, many people are familiar with the Crumbl Cookies phenomenon. Although created in 2017, this cookie chain became popular years later through social media. Trending videos on platforms such as TikTok publicized and advertised the unique business and their ever-changing menu. After all, how many cookie shops are there like Crumbl?
The popularity that started years ago has yet to die down in contrast to most of the short-lived hype of restaurants or food through social media. There continues to be videos of influencers taste-testing the six new cookies of the week, and as Crumbl succeeds in staying relevant the cookies do not seem to be losing any traction soon.
However, Crumbl Cookies face many mixed reviews. From loyal customers who try each week’s flavors to people who claim Crumbl is disgusting despite never trying it before, people’s opinions on these cookies range greatly. The question is this: Is there a correct side to this cookie feud?
Price
One of the main arguments from Crumbl cynics is the prices of the cookies. One cookie alone is $4.99, and the popular box of six is $24.99. To some, this price is far too much for a simple sweet treat, as the cookies are more expensive than the average meal from fast food restaurants.
However, Crumbl defenders, such as Jaiden Kwon (9), are adamant that these prices are fair for the product Crumbl sells.
“I think it’s actually pretty reasonable because the amount of cookie that you get is really big,” Kwon said. “It’s only $25 for the full box.”
Taste
Perhaps the biggest debate surrounding Crumbl Cookie is the taste itself. While some believe that the sugar filled cookies are simply delicious, others argue that the sweetness of the cookie gets to a point of nauseousness.
There is some truth to those derogatory claims. The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) said, “Each cookie has 76 grams (18 teaspoons) of added sugar—about one and a half times a day’s max.” This amount of sugar may seem unappealing to some, but others seem unbothered and still enjoy the taste.
There’s also a happy medium to these opinions, in which people agree that this hefty dose of sugar can be appetizing sometimes, but do not consume it regularly.
“I don’t want diabetes, but it is good once in a while,” Sean Khan (9) said.
Health
Closely following the last point of taste, is the concerns of health. There is no way to change the truth that Crumbl is not nutritious or healthy in any way. Each cookie has about 700 or more calories, which is 200 more than a McDonald’s Big Mac. A box of six cookies would contain about 4,200 calories, exceeding the recommended 2,000 calories a day for general nutrition advice.
“It’s like 3,000 calories in a cookie,” Alice Diep (9) said. “I could die from that.”
Though some Crumbl Cookie critics exaggerate, it is true that the amount of calories per cookie is concerning. It definitely is not something that one should regularly consume on a weekly basis.
Service
The quality of service is always important to consider with all businesses, including Crumbl. In terms of a job, being an employee at Crumbl entails what most fast food chain’s employment promises.
“As a baker or driver, you’ll strive to provide high-quality desserts by processing orders, balling dough, topping desserts, and occasionally driving,” Crumbl Cookies said.
Some people believe that this fairly simple job should not be as hard to complete as the workers make it. They believe the long waits they had to endure for their treats was unnecessary. However, credit must be given to the employees who work under pressure to complete a large quantity of orders due to the popularity of Crumbl.
In general, the reviews of these establishments tend to be more positive than negative, with the local Crumbl location in Chino having a 4.3/5 rating on Yelp and 4.8/5 on Google Reviews.
Uniqueness
Definitely the spotlight of the business, is the unique changing menu, creating limited time offers on cookies every week. For some this is the main appeal of the cookie, as fear of missing out on a good week at Crumbl motivates them to buy weekly.
This aspect of the company adds a fun experience to purchasing flavors, as people like experimenting, trying new cookies, as well as finding comfort in their old favorites coming back. Some of these favorites include Cookie Dough, Biscoff Lava, Teddy Graham, and a fan favorite, the Snickerdoodle Cupcake. The list does not just end there though, as there is approximately 200 delicious Crumbl Cookie flavors that many love and enjoy.
“I really like it because then I get to try different flavors,” Kwon said.
There really is no other big competing store against Crumbl in this sense. This uncommon characteristic sets them apart from others, as well as allowing them to gain and maintain popularity.
***
Throughout the years, Crumbl Cookie has grown to make a name for themselves with their distinctive idea and design. There are many factors to consider when comparing the two opposing views of this company. With good points made at both sides, there really is no correct answer to the question of liking or disliking the cookies.
Most can agree that it is not recommended to consume these cookies excessively, however, a treat every once in a while never hurts. As for the popularity of the cookies, it does not seem like it will die down any time soon. There are still many who will unapologetically support and buy these cookies.
“Crumbl Cookies is life,” Kwon said.
