In their last league meeting, the Ayala Girls Basketball team faced off against league opponent Glendora Tartans. The Bulldogs looked to snap a four-game losing streak, with three games being league matchups. Having on-and-off days when it comes to scoring and how close games are, Ayala has yet to top their competition.
The first quarter seemed to be a preview onto what the game would look like, with Glendora taking a demanding lead, putting Ayala behind 6-15. However, the Bulldogs have proved to be a slowly uphill fighting team, finding a groove against their opponents and starting promising scoring drives. By the second quarter, the division between grew, as it was now 14-29 by the end of the first half. However, Ayala is a second half team, even if they do sometimes come up short.
Starting the second half, Ayala seemed to find that groove and understand the Glendora offense, putting up double digit points in a quarter for the first time all game, outscoring the Tartan offense as well. By the third quarter, the score was 29-41 with Ayala having to really work to close the gap. The fourth quarter looked exactly that way, as Ayala’s defense held Glendora to single points scored in a quarter and, again, outscored them. However, the Bulldogs did not complete their comeback in adequate time, falling to the Tartans 45-50.
A promising close game gives hope to Ayala, who looks to break their now five-game losing streak against a Walnut team, who Ayala topped in their last meeting. The game is set for Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Walnut High School.
