On Thursday, January 30, girls varsity soccer won their game against Claremont with a score of 2-1. Nearing the end of the season, Ayala’s record is now 12-6-2 overall, and they are 6-2-1 in league. Claremont’s record is now 9-4-5 overall, and they are 4-2-3 in league. This was the second to last game of the season for both teams and before the game, Ayala held their senior night to honor the seniors who will be leaving the team.
For senior night, teams often play a team that isn’t as good as them in order to score a successful night for the seniors as they all will have an opportunity to play. However, girls soccer never turned down a challenge as they chose to compete against Claremont who defeated them 4-2 in their last match up of the season. Therefore, it would be an uphill battle to leave the seniors with a win and a night to remember.
In the first half of the game, Ayala managed to score two goals on a tough Claremont defense. In order to secure the 2-0 at halftime, Ayala’s defense locked down and allowed nothing to get past them. In the second half, Claremont made a comeback, scoring one goal on Ayala. However, it was not enough and by the end of the game, Ayala won 2-1.
