With this game being the last of the season, Ayala Girls Basketball looked to break a two-game losing streak going into their match up with Bonita High School. The Bulldogs also looked to get back at Bonita, being 0-1 against the Bobcats.
The start of the game showed little promise, as the first quarter was a small quantity of scoring for the Bulldogs, who only put up five points compared to Bonita’s 16. Ayala’s defense was also a bit lackluster, not holding a rather explosive Bonita offense. Going into the second quarter, Ayala’s defense still didn’t seem to have an answer, as Bonita put up 14 points. Ayala, however, didn’t answer with their own offense, as they only put up one point. By the end of the first half, Ayala was down big to the Bobcats, 6-30.
Starting the second half, Ayala had to focus on all facets of the game, their offense and defense. Stopping Bonita’s offense was crucial to mounting a possible comeback, and hopes were that the offense would revive itself and hit double digits on the scoreboard. Bonita had strong control over the game, and that continued to show. Ayala’s defense continued to let up, as the Bobcats scored 19 points in the quarter, while Ayala only mustered another five points. By the end of the third, the score was 11-49. The fourth quarter was really just catch-up for the Bulldogs, as they proved to be a later game team, showing their best at the end. Ayala was locked down in the fourth, holding Bonita to 9 points and Ayala put up the most all game, putting up eight points. The game ended with a score of 19-58.
The Bulldogs, with their loss, ended their season with an 11-17 record, going 2-8 in the Palomares League, placing fifth. Ayala Girls Basketball had an amazing season, with many bright spots and facing great competition. Good job for an amazing season!
