5As many walked around campus from December 8 to December 11, students would do all that they possibly could to prepare for the Ayala Theater Company’s [ATC] newest production, “High School Musical”. With so much anticipation for the next musical for Ayala, many were eager to audition for the show. Additionally, auditions can also give many a great amount of anxiety or fear.

Many went into this show with much excitement and love because of the popular Disney Channel Movie that the production is based on. For many, this movie series grew up with them, as well as the characters themselves. Not only did many fall in love with this movie series, but they looked up to their favorite characters as role models, and with the show, many have had the opportunity to play these beloved characters.

“I’ve always loved ‘High School Musical.’ It was my favorite movie from when I was younger and was one of the primary things that got me into theatre,” Lauren Dalusong (9) said. “Also, ‘High School Musical’ got me excited to start high school theatre here.”

Although there was much love and anticipation for the show, audition processes are not always the easiest. For many, auditions can cause a great amount of stress since many have to memorize lines, songs, or choreography. This can not only take a lot of time, but just may also be difficult to get a grasp on. However, this was nothing that our Bulldogs have not been able to handle before.

“During the audition process, I was both scared and excited at the same time. Since this is my first time doing it in theater, this whole experience was new to me,” Ava Benigno (10) said. “Yet despite it being extremely nerve-wracking, my energy was up because I knew so many people and was making new relationships in the process.”

Although it was a scary audition process, many were ready to put their talent to the test during the process. With this enjoyment and lightness in the air, the anxiety was lifted off of many of the shoulders of many auditioning.

“My favorite part of the audition was the acting portion because it is something that I am extremely passionate about,” Oliver Munoz (11) said. “I also love being able to do different scenes with others and to really embrace the different characters I read for.”

With the audition process coming to a close, students have had stress lifted off their shoulders and get to embrace the new relationships made during the whole process. Not only were students able to make new relationships, but many were also able to open themselves to the world of theater with a great show. Now everyone must wait until the final production is put on later in the school year.
