From January 28 to 29, dozens of students gathered around the front of class C103 as they slowly filed into the choir room. As students entered the room, they were greeted by a new faces. Hosted by the Ayala’s choir, Bring A Buddy To Choir Day was where students were invited to spend a rehearsal and experience choir with current members. By hosting this event, Ayala Choir gave students a memorable experience and encouraged them to consider joining the choir before next year.
“The event was fun. It allowed people who aren’t in the choir experience what the program is like and get a small taste of it,” Jacob Medina (11) said. “[It] also [allowed] us to see what students do in choir and how much effort people put into the music.”
By getting a taste of what choir is really like, many students felt that they would also enjoy being in the program next year. Through seeing what students in the program are currently doing and learning, they are enticed to join the choir after learning that they don’t specifically have to be “good” to join, just ready to commit. Additionally, since it is extremely early and difficult to choose classes for the next year, this gives students time to think over their decision before auditioning and adding it to their schedule.
“I do feel a bit more enticed to join choir after this event, as people have been nothing but positive when commenting on how I did,” Jaden Ho (10) said. “Yet I’ll still need more time to truly think the decision over.”
Not only was this event for students interested in potentially joining the choir in the future, but it was a great event for current choir students as well. Currently, as choir continues to grow, seeing so many different people in their designated place of practice is quite inspiring to see, as it gives a glimpser to what it would be like if both ensembles were full. Additionally, this event allowed students to bond with their friends who are not in the program over something they would both enjoy.
“Seeing so many people show up to this event and have the courage to sing with all these people was really heartwarming,” Adalyn Hirst (10) said. “Anyone who has performed can vouch that it can be scary, so seeing so many people singing together was really an experience.
With choir’s newest event, both new and current choir members were able to see dozens of people meet up for a single day to do something that can be extremely nerve-wracking. Additionally, many other students not in the program were able to get a glimpse of what current students are learning and spending their rehearsals doing.
Additionally, by giving students a glimpse of what the choir program holds, it allows students to bond with their friends who may not be in the program. By doing so, the choir has been able to reach across the student body to try to convince students to get more involved by joining the program in the near future.
