Every senior in high school goes through the same things every year, the most common phase being known as “senioritis.” This term was coined by seniors, describing what seniors face on a daily basis. Factors such as stress, a lack of motivation, and emotional exhaustion after countless years of hard work and studying all contribute to the umbrella term. Each day, as graduation becomes closer and closer, many seniors start to feel highly unmotivated and tend to struggle to care about assignments and school in general.
Taking difficult classes, the stress of the potential future, and balancing life and school all bring a different level of stress that makes life more harsh. However, senioritis can come in different forms for different people with different backgrounds or goals. Sometimes their motivation can come back from time to time, but the stress and tiredness that it brings will quickly take its place.

“We’ve been in high school for four years, you essentially do the same thing every year, so it’s just repetitive,” Shriji Patel (12) said.
This repetition can make school feel less exciting and more of a never ending cycle. Seniors are also balancing college applications, sports, extracurriculars, jobs, family, and other responsibilities that they may have which can also add to the level of stress.
“Everything is going to be okay. Don’t stress about anything at all,” Patel said.
That reminder is important because many seniors are feeling the stress for their future, yet, everything will work out and they have to take one step at a time.
Staying disciplined and avoiding overwork can help overcome senior stress. To find balance in all the work a student has and not to take the hardest classes. It is extremely important to stay on a healthy mindset, that trying to be the most perfect one can be.
This should be taken seriously because students are feeling overwhelmed and stressed while still trying to finish an important part of their life. With the correct mindset and good balance, students will be able to succeed and push through senior year while still being able to enjoy their final memories before becoming a young adult.
