As the world is continuing to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, traditional concerts have started up again, with music artists performing the music they have released during or after the pandemic. From small artists announcing tours, to the announcement of huge festivals, concert goers are able to see their favorite musicians live in concert again.

Harry Styles has announced 32 shows for his North America residency. The shows were divided into 10 shows in New York, 10 shows in Los Angeles, 2 shows in Toronto, 5 shows in Chicago, and 5 shows in Austin. Due to the high anticipation over these shows, tickets were sold out almost immediately, with many fans traveling from all over to see Styles perform in concert.

However, amidst the back to back shows and the United States entering flu season, it was the first time in Styles’ career that he had to reschedule 3 shows for his LA residency at The Forum.

“Until very recently I haven’t had to postpone a show due to illness in the 12 years I’ve been touring,” Styles posted to Instagram. “If there was anyway I could do the show I would. The shows on November 5th, 6th, 7th will be postponed until January 26th, 27th, 29th 2023. Everything else will play as planned.”

For many people, it was going to be their first time seeing Harry Styles. With the shows being postponed, many fans were upset over this outcome, but others had  expected this to happen. Overall, many fans have similar thoughts surrounding the event.

“Everyone’s getting sick around this time in California,” Lily Castro (11) said. “When I heard the news I expected it and then when I told my mom she said she expected it too.”

There were some fans that had traveled out of state or even the country to come to the singer’s shows; some of which had bought tickets to the shows that got rescheduled. There were various responses towards the news; some were sympathetic while others were expressing how upset they were.

“The people getting mad over him being sick, which is something he can’t control, upset me a lot,” Kari Gianchandani (11) said. “But I understand why some people were mad, especially if they traveled far away to see him and spent money on hotels etc.”

When the news was announced, fans were wishing the singer to feel better and hoped for the best for him. There were many posts, comments, and tweets talking about their concerns since Styles has not done this before.

“I like that he cares enough for his fans and basically apologizes for it,” Castro said. “It’s not his fault he got sick but it’s a good and nice thing to do.”

“I just hope he is okay and well, and I’d rather see him when he’s doing better rather than when he is sick.” Gianchandani said, “If I’ve waited this long, I can wait a bit longer knowing it’ll be worth it.”
