From Monday, December 4th to Friday, December 8th, Amnesty and Earth Club joined forces for a delightful mini bake sale after school. The initiative featured a mouthwatering assortment of desserts ranging from $1-$3 and $3 succulents, creating a sweet opportunity for students to support two important causes.
The collaboration emerged from the friendship between the clubs. Recognizing the power of teamwork, the Amnesty and Earth Club combined their efforts to turn a small-scale event into a substantial fundraiser. The profits from this initiative are set to make a significant impact on two critical fronts: wildlife preservation and crisis relief in the Middle East.
The Middle East crisis fund supported by Amnesty Club aims to aid organizations working on the ground in Palestine and Israel. The funds will be directed towards providing medical attention, housing, and food to those in need. This broad-reaching initiative seeks to support displaced individuals and contribute to humanitarian efforts in the region.
On the other hand, Earth Club’s profits will contribute to wildlife conservation efforts. These funds are dedicated to initiatives focused on preserving and protecting our planet’s diverse ecosystems. With a commitment to making the world a better place, Earth Club is passionate about supporting causes that align with their values.
President of Earth Club, Malaia Reger (12), acknowledged the power of high schoolers’ motivation for food, making a bake sale the ideal fundraising approach. The convenient after-school timing and affordable prices ensured widespread participation, with students readily supporting the cause.
“We know that high schoolers are often motivated by food, especially after school when cravings kick in. Recognizing the convenience of bake sales right as students leave class, we found it to be an effective way to raise funds,” Reger said. “Our affordable prices and cash-friendly approach make it a win-win, offering a cheaper alternative than store-bought treats.”
Reflecting on the community turnout, customer Emma Wang (9) expressed her happiness at witnessing strong school spirit and interaction.
“There were a lot of students supporting, and it felt very fulfilling to witness,” Wang said.
In terms of organization, the clubs held officer meetings to plan and coordinate logistics. They discussed reimbursements, work schedules, and strategies for efficient setup, ensuring a smooth operation throughout the week. A group chat facilitated communication and coordination among members.
Despite the usual challenges of outdoor events, such as wind knocking over plants and posters, the teams persevered. The overwhelming success of the mini bake sale showcased the dedication and resilience of Amnesty and Earth Club members in their pursuit of making a positive impact.
As the week-long event comes to a close, the collaboration between Amnesty Club and Earth Club exemplifies the collective power of student clubs working together for a greater good. The funds raised will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on wildlife conservation and crisis relief efforts in the Middle East.
“The beauty of clubs like these lies in working with friends from various groups, turning small efforts into impactful fundraisers,” said Amnesty Club Vice President Amanda Noguez (11). “This collaboration amplifies our causes and showcases the power of unity in achieving meaningful goals.”
