Rapper Montero Lamar Hill, aka Lil Nas X, came out with his debut album, MONTERO in this September. The 22-year-old from Lithia Springs, Georgia, had been teasing the release of his album previously for a while.

The rapper’s first big hit was “Old Town Road,” which was released in 2018, became very popular in 2019 on the social media app TikTok. He quickly became popular amongst Generation Z.

Many people have been anxiously waiting for this release ever since he announced it. The MONTERO album on its own has many good songs and features well-known and beloved singers, including Doja Cat, Megan the Stallion, Jack Harlow, and Miley Cyrus.

“I like all of the songs off of the album., but my favorite one is Scoop, I love how it sounds and I am also a big fan of Doja Cat, which makes me love the song even more,” said parent Elvia Anaya.

The success of the MONTERO album is reflected not only in fan opinion but also in the overall ratings. As of October 2nd, Lil Nas X has had 11 songs off of the album on Billboard’s top 100 list.

Songs that have been featured on the Billboard top 100 include “Industry Babfeaturing Jack Harlow at number 2, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” at number 9, “That’s What I Want at number 10, and “Scoop featuring Doja Cat at number 42.

The public and the charts both are in agreement that the album is great, but some think otherwise.

“I don’t like him or his music he makes, his statements are those that I do not agree with at all,” parent Maria De Leon said.

While the rapper has received mixed opinions from the media and general audiences, there is not denying that Lil Nas X and his album MONTERO have had a major impact on the music industry, one that quite has not yet been seen before by mainstream media.
