Friends Kyle Cheng (9) and Derek Chen (9) also have AIR books. Chen is reading a classic "The Hobbit" and diving into the literary works of J.R.R Tolkien. Cheng is reading "The Neptune Challenge."
With the start of the new school year, a brand new active independent reading (AIR) book comes with it. Also known as a silent or independent reading book, this is an assignment that students throughout Ayala have become accustomed to. English teachers at Ayala give students about two months to read a novel that fits their specific class requirements. Bulldogs bring these books to school everyday and are a necessity able to be found in backpacks right next to their Chromebook. Books chosen have a large variety of genres from fantasy to mystery to biographies. No matter the case, it is amazing to see different interests, personalities, and opinions being expressed through students’ choice of book.
