[Photo Essay] Inside the world of athlete footwear
Each athlete has their own background that they represent in their own unique ways, but the way they are able to express it varies. Most commonly, expressions are found on their sneakers or cleats. Athletes wear their sneakers for their own unique reasons. It could be simply for the comfort or even the color, but for many, the shoe goes deeper than just the appearance.
Senior Nevaeh Lima from flag football wears the Nike Vapor Edge Kobe 6 ‘Grinch’ for her choice of cleats. “These cleats represent more than just a brand; they remind me to play with the same passion and mindset Kobe [Bryant] had,” Lima said.
Junior Evelyn Farias from girls volleyball wears the Nike Giannis Immortality 4 ‘Candy’ for her choice of shoes. “These shoes are my favorite because of how much they stand out on the court,” Farias said.
Senior Isaiah Dolloso from boys basketball wears the Nike Sabrina 2 ‘By You’ in his own customized colorway. “These shoes make me remember my roots of the Philippines and how both of my parents moved here and created a blessed life for me,” Dolloso said.
Sophomore Sameer Asad from football wears the Nike Vapor Edge 360 ‘Untouchable’ Mid for his choice of cleats. “These cleats are lightweight and I’m able to break down easily in them,” Asad said. He also credits the ‘sock’ portion that provides him comfort and stability.
Junior Olivia Kim from cross country and track and field wears the Nike Air Zoom Rival Distance Spikes for her choice of shoes. “They’re super light and make you feel like speed,” Kim said.
Junior Zachary Paz from cross country wears the Nike ZoomX Streak Fly for his choice of shoes. “These shoes are light and make me feel fast on race day,” Paz said.
