Once upon a time,

The moon fell in love with the sun

With her cheerful personality,

And blazing bright smile

But the sun was already in love

With the wind,

Who carried her heat

And dampened her spark

When the moon found out,

He wept, and wept, and wept so much

That the ocean wept with him and yielded his purity to the salt

The wind loved the sun for the control he had over her,

But the moon loved the sun for her soul

He didn’t want her to change or become endurable,

He wanted all parts of her, burning and wild and vulnerable

But whenever he went to tell her,

She ran away with the wind,

Never in his reach

So in circles he went,

Never feeling the spark of her gaze

Or the electricity of her touch

Never hearing the sizzle of her laugh

Or the breath of her sigh

He was solitary,

Only in alliance with the dreamers

Who stay up at night

And go in circles themselves

The skies pity them,

The isolated,

Yet they do not make a sound, only listening

As the children of the moon add their own salt to the ocean

The moon weeps, the sun runs, and the skies stay silent

Maybe not all get to experience the gift of love,

Maybe they can only chase it

And never get to taste the infatuating sugar of one another,

Maybe they remain forever hungry,

Forever weeping,

Forever at the hands of fate
