The Grammy nominations, a highly anticipated annual announcement of famous artists and recordings that are recognized for being successful in the music industry, have come around once again. The nominees are decided through the votes from the members of the Recording Academy and announced by popular artists. This year had many good artists and songs chosen, but there was some controversy among fans.

For example, here are the Best Pop Vocal Albums nominated:

“Swag” – Justin Bieber

“Man’s Best Friend” – Sabrina Carpenter

“Something Beautiful” – Miley Cyrus

“Mayhem” – Lady Gaga

“I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 2)” – Teddy Swims

In my opinion, Justin Bieber should not be on the list. I believe there were many better songs and albums that could have been chosen. Similarly, Cyrus and Swims aren’t the best or well-known artists out there as of recently, which left me to question why their new albums are suddenly nominated. Cyrus’s style of singing is personally not my favorite and not many have ever heard of one of Swims’ songs. Thus, I believe that these nominations are not the best options.

Best Pop Solo performances were listed as follows:

“Daises” – Justin Bieber

“Manchild” – Sabrina Carpenter

“Disease” – Lady Gaga

“The Subway” – Chappell Roan

“Messy” – Lola Young

Once again, Justin Bieber appears. To give the benefit of the doubt, some of his songs were okay, yet his personality in real life bleeds into how I personally feel about his songs. His old songs were hits, and I feel that not many people like his recently made songs. Gaga has made interesting titles that I know a lot of people like, but personally, it is not my style, and they all sound the same. On the contrary, I really like that they put “Messy” and “Manchild.” For me, they were good songs that I enjoyed. 

The Best New Artists were as follows:

Olivia Dean

Katseye

The Marias

Addison Rae

Sombr

Leon Thomas

Alex Warren

Lola Young

I really like this lineup, except for Addison Rae. I believe she is not a good artist when it comes to her choreography and the way she presents her songs. I personally enjoy Sombr and his songs, but recently, many people online have claimed that his songs are not as good as before. The way he presents himself is overall chaotic, which is what is unique and fun about him. 

There were many more nominations, but overall, this year’s nominations were disappointing. There definitely could have been better nominations, such as The Weeknd or Tyler, the Creator. Though many have enjoyed this year’s lineup, I believe that there were also a good number of people who did not agree and disliked the lineup.
