“Secret Admirer” by Zaynah Boothe (9)

“I feel like this is very relatable to some students and people in general because rejection is something that many cannot face, yet they admire their person through a distance, because it gives them happiness knowing that there could be a chance, instead of simply knowing that it could never happen,” staff writer Manushri Patel (10) said.

“I like that it is short and concise but still is able to tell a story. I think that it captures that sort of feeling that you have when you have a crush, and while reading, you could envision a person in mind,” staff writer Jonas Ollano (12) said.

“Moon, Sun, and Ocean” by Shrika Miriyala (10)

“This artistically describes the feeling of unrequited love and falling for someone who has already fallen for someone else. The metaphor between the sun and moon, who never collide, is a unique and creative perspective on love and life,” staff writer Alexa Corpuz (10) said.

“This poem is so beautiful, tragic, and yet so meaningful all at once. I adore the use of the sun and the moon as the main characters instead of some simple, cheesy high school trope. Whilst the story is the simple unrequited love, the diction within the stanzas make it sound so compelling and deep, as if it was written from the soul,” Features Editor Estelle Ignacio (10) said.

“When the Season Learns Its Name” by Nikki Sivixay (10)

“This gives like a reality check to those who think they might be moving too fast and it is also just for people who are not currently in love. In the future the people could learn from this poem and know what to do in a relationship,” staff writer Annika Lim (10) said.

“It showed what love truly is and how it cannot be contained or stopped. It is also very relatable and shows the hard truths about love and how it may not always be glamorous, but instead normal, but that is what makes it so special,” News Editor Madison O’Neill (12) said.
