Ride the wave, keep the momentum going, and defend homecourt. This was the goal for the Ayala men’s volleyball team going into their round one California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) matchup against the Bishop Amat Lancers.

The Bulldogs came in riding high, winning three of their last four games, and having a stellar record at home, going 11-4 this season.

The first set would finish with the Bulldogs atop 25-16, with a sizable distance between them and the Lancers. The second set would be similar, as the Bulldogs were able to actually improve on the margins, winning 25 to 15. Going into the third and potential final set, Ayala looked to put the nail in the coffin, and with their backs against the wall, the lancers answered with everything they had. But it was not enough and the Bulldogs were able to hold off winning the third and final set 25-22.

The Bulldogs played in round two against the Garden Grove Argonauts on Thursday April 30 in an away game.
