On February 1, the 86th annual Grammy Awards Ceremony was held at the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles. At this ceremony, various music artists are recognized for their talents and achievements. This is a big event for artists to not only be recognized for their unique musical careers, but also their personal fashion choices. This is their chance to show up in their formal attire and wow the audience with their impeccable style. Although many have said that the outfits were simply just not very tasteful this year, here are three looks that still stood out last night.
Teyana Taylor was seen wearing a look by Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann. She wore a sleek, bronze, floor-length gown that shimmered under all the paparazzi lights. Her dress was unique as the torso was custom sculpted to fit her body and the fabric wrapped around her neck in a unique halter style, showing off her impressive athletic figure and eye-catching complexion. The look itself was very clean and simple, yet still elevated by the texture of her dress, her dangling rose gold jewelry, and slick back hair. Her stylist’s choices proved that less can always be more. Her look was just as slick and smooth as her voice, which was nominated for the best R&B album of the year.
I think Taylor did an impeccable job at keeping her outfit simple, yet still elevated and elegant. She stood out to me because her look was minimal, but not boring. The bodice has an intriguing structure and the low cuts in the gown bring attention to her muscular physique. Her train is also the perfect length, not too dramatic or basic, and adds a more interesting silhouette./span>
FKA Twigs definitely stood out on the red carpet with her Paola Carzona gown. The look’s silhouette was unique and rugged, which contrasted with the sleeker or bigger silhouettes of others. Her dress was layered with light and airy fabrics, colored in tan, burnt orange, and a slight tinge of pink. The fabrics laid upon her like petals. The more muted colors contrasted with the bright red half-up half-down hairstyle and her laceleaf accessory in hand. As for other accessories, she wore chunky silver arm cuffs, bracelets, and rings by Slim Barrett, which balanced out the daintiness of her dress and her choker. Another thing that stood out about her look were her tights, which have a black flower on her ankle. Her unique look matched her music, which compared to other artists there that night, is more experimental and ethereal.
I believe that FKA Twigs stood out among the rest of the celebrities on the red carpet because her look is not the usual gown that one thinks of when they try to imagine formal attire. This dress, especially with the accessories, is whimsical and fairy-like and adds a unique aesthetic, which suits her very well. I couldn’t imagine her in anything basic or minimalistic. I also like the simple shoe choice of ballet shoes. It allows more attention to be brought to the dress itself.
Olivia Dean wore a custom Chanel dress designed by Matthieu Blazy. Her form-fitting bodice was bedazzled with shiny black sequins and lined with black and white feathers that stuck out at the waist where the bodice met the skirt. The skirt was simple, being white and poofy with a longer train, creating a princess-like silhouette. To match the dress, she wore black and white two-tone heels and silver jewelry, including dangly earrings, a bracelet, and rings. Her hair was down and parted to the side, with her curls flowing perfectly as she walked down the red carpet. Her look was very classy, reflecting her music in the jazz, soul, pop, and R&B genres. Her voice is just as powerful as her fashion choices.
Personally, I would say that Dean did an incredible job balancing edge and elegance. The feathers and sequins add boldness and grit, while the large skirt adds innocence and comfort. I also like how the front of the skirt ends right above the shoes, which makes the shoe choice more important and personal. I also love how she kept her hair down and natural as I think it further balances her effortless beauty.
