Mateo Cole

Mateo Cole, Staff Writer

Mateo Cole: athletic, academic, and an overall awesome person. Ever since he was a young boy, Cole has always had a passion for pursuing his creative impulses. Whether that be painting, sketching, piano or writing, there exists something within that urges him to provide the best artistic work he can create. Which leads him here, to entertain the idea of becoming a journalist. But art isn’t his only passion, as he is a fairly accomplished athlete in his high school career. A varsity member of the cross country and track team, Mateo Cole has been running his whole life. In the seventh grade he made the big stage, competing in the Junior Olympics, and since then he pushes himself to become a collegiate athlete. At Ayala, he spends his time with his teammates, his most fond memories are of the sleepovers they have each summer, or the different “fun runs” that occur on occasion. Though after a long day of creation, school work and running, he takes the time to sit down and enjoy a good book. The future is wide open for this young man.

“I’ve learned to treat school work like running. You want to do your best in running and to do that is to give school the same attention,” sophomore varsity track and junior varsity cross country athlete Caleb Ornelas said. “Next year I will manage my time better by starting my work sooner as it is assigned to me so I may have more time to give to cross country and track.”
