[Photo Essay] Ayala’s Winter Art Showcase dazzles

From Thursday, November 20 to Friday, November 21, the Ayala art program hosted an art show in the library, presenting hundreds of outstanding pieces made dutifully by students. As observers passed by, they took a moment to understand the works that caught their eye and even preserved the memory by taking photos. After several weeks of hard work, these artists deserve to be appreciated.

“I think it’s really fun to see all the art pieces come together,” Show Director Cole Byers said. “There is something about having them all in a more professional space that I think is just really fun to see.”

Manushri Patel, Staff Writer

Manushri Patel (10) is a staff writer for the Bulldog Times, and this is her 1st year in Journalism. Manushri hopes to learn valuable writing skills to help her along the way for her future. She looks forward to improving her writing as well as her communication skills for school or extracurricular activities. She has been taking dance classes and has done countless performances for the past 10 years, as well as painting and art for seven years. These two activities are extremely important for her as a person, as the hobbies have grown with her ever since she was a little girl. This year, she is eager to be a part of many clubs, such as Ayala Broadcasting, MUN, Speech and Debate, as well as others. Alongside dancing and painting, she enjoys spending time with friends and family and watching movies or shows.

Olivia Mendoza, Editor-in-Chief, Club President

Olivia Mendoza (12) was the Editor-In-Chief of the Bulldog Times. Her senior year marked her 3rd year on staff. Olivia hopes to unite the student body to create a diverse community through writing. She is looking forward to expanding the paper in hopes of making it more well known across campus. Aside from the Bulldog Times, Olivia is also the President of National Honors Society, a 2023 Class Officer, and President of ASL Club. Outside of school, Olivia plays volleyball at Forza1 North, and is also the co-captain of the varsity volleyball team. She loves all things nature, and is always up for a new adventure in the outdoors. Olivia dreams of getting to travel the world for National Geographic and live in a van while visiting all the National Parks in the country. Her favorite thing about Ayala are the relationships she has built with her classmates over the years.

Annika Lim, Staff Writer

Annika Lim (10) is a staff writer, and this is her second year with Bulldog Times. Annika hopes to provide fun and educational information around campus and bring joy to the people by showing them what events are happening inside and outside of school. Annika is involved in the community outside of school as well, such as volunteering at Priceless Pets and helping disabled people at Circle of Friends. She loves volunteering at places that need help and helping out with the community. One of her hobbies that she loves is playing drums for her church praise team. Annika hopes to bring joy to the people on campus through her writing this year.

Elisabeth Lee, Editor-in-Chief

Elisabeth Lee (12) is the Editor-in-Chief of the Bulldog Times, and this is her fourth year on staff. She looks forward to using her skills of writing to bring recognition to people and places on campus and in the community, and hopes to inspire other students to pursue writing as a creative outlet. Outside of journalism, Elisabeth is on Ayala’s golf team and president of Foster Love, UNICEF, MedBridge, and Plushies with Purpose. She also leads Art4Kids, Operation 36, and the Korean Culture Club, and loves volunteering in the health field. In Elisabeth’s free time, she enjoys watching TV shows, spending time with friends, and learning new tricks.

Alexa Corpuz, Staff Writer

Alexa Corpuz (10) is a staff writer, and this is her first year with the Bulldog Times. By joining the publication, she hopes to find a new passion and become more involved in the community. She looks forward to reporting on important events and pop culture topics in and out of school, along with meeting new people in Journalism and writing her heart out. She is already in Ayala’s Dance Program for her second year and is becoming an officer for a new club this year. In her free time, she enjoys drawing interesting people, singing her favorite songs, and taking care of her two bunnies, Appa and Lilo.

Camilo Carmona, Staff Writer

Camilo Carmona (11) is a staff writer and is entering his first year with the Bulldog Times. Camilo is excited to be joining the program and hopes to expand his skills in journalism throughout his first year. He is looking forward to meeting new people and playing more of a role on campus. His ultimate goal is to have fun and enjoy these new experiences while creating long-lasting memories. Along with this, Camilo plays basketball for the Ayala Varsity basketball team and is looking forward to another highly competitive season. Outside of school, he enjoys watching his hometown sports teams, playing on his PlayStation, and eating McDonald’s.

Olivia Rivera, Staff Writer

Olivia Rivera (11) is a staff writer, and this is her first year with the Bulldog Times. Olivia hopes to foster camaraderie with the rest of the team, as well as broaden her creative writing and teamwork capacity. Outside of journalism, you can find her at Raging Waters, where she works part-time, or at St. Denis, which is the parish she actively volunteers at. She is involved in Ayala Dance, Key Club, Spanish Club, and Appreciation for the Pacific Coast Club. She is passionate about quality time with her friends, travel, Autumn, worship, reading, writing, listening to music, watching Netflix, and performing arts.

Jessie Lyu, Staff Writer

Jessie Lyu (10) is a staff writer for the Bulldog Times. Even though it’s her first year on staff, she has a positive attitude and a motive to improve her writing. Jessie hopes to spread happiness around, challenge herself with new topics she’s never encountered before, and make new friends. She looks forward to meeting new people and is very interested in sparking new topics for everyone around. She‘s not only a hardworking student, but also strives in many other extracurricular activties. YET, a youth etiquette training program she constructed with her friends offers leadership skills and helps her gain new perspectives while meeting new people. She’s an outgoing, smart, and energetic child of God, and positively radiates a glow for everyone in the room to feel comfortable around. Jessie is eager to learn about new subjects and cherishes the treasures she has in life. Jessie can balance her social life as well as her mental state. In her free time, Jessie enjoys trying out new hobbies, jamming to K-pop, exercising, and spending quality time with her friends and family.

Kaylani Hsu, Sports Editor

Kaylani Hsu (11) is the Sports Editor for the Bulldog Times, and this is her third year on the staff. Kaylani was initially driven by her love for creative writing to join the publication, but has found a new passion in reporting on a variety of news within the school and outside. This year, Kaylani hopes to create a fun and engaging environment for new staff writers to find their own passions in writing while also refining her own skills in the publication. Outside of the Bulldog Times, Kaylani enjoys spending her time with multiple hobbies and activities, including volleyball, volunteering, reading, baking, swimming, and hanging out with friends.

Estelle Ignacio, Features Editor

Estelle Ignacio (10) is the Features Editor of the Bulldog Times, and this is her 2nd year on staff. Estelle hopes to explore the different aspects that this school campus has to offer, ranging from talented students to opinionated hot topics rising around campus. She looks forward to meeting and collaborating with new people and being able to bond with them throughout the year. As well as being in Journalism, she is also the VEX Robotics vice president, in theater, and hopes to explore more clubs around the school, such as debate, science philosophy, and Model United Nations. Outside of school, she loves to read, crochet, spend time with family, and listen to music. A big part of Estelle’s life is music, and she spends most of her time finding and listening to new, niche music.

Allison Caganap, Open Canvas Manager

Allison Caganap (10) is the Open Canvas Manager for the Bulldog Times, and this is her second year on staff. Allison looks forward to discovering stories that highlight unique individuals on campus and growing in her journalistic capabilities. Through the Bulldog Times, she hopes her work will encourage other students to fall in love with the art of writing while collaborating with other staff members who share her passions. She cannot wait to see where her writing journey will take her in the future. Allison is also a devoted member of Key Club, Disney Club, and the founder of her own club, Food for Life. In her free time, she enjoys cooking for her family, reading books about any of her interests, fleeting or otherwise, and discovering new music, movies, or shows that she consumes with a fervor.

Nicholas Tovmasyan, Staff Writer

Nicholas Tovmasyan (10) is a staff writer in his second year as part of the Bulldog Times. He looks forward to the bright year ahead. Nicholas hopes to bring light to the dozen amazing students on campus through his writing, as well as creating many articles focused on pop culture. On campus, Nicholas is part of the Gender Sexuality Alliance, Performers of Ayala, Drama Club, and Stagecraft Club, and hopes to be able to spotlight them in what they do. In his free time, Nicholas enjoys making jewelry, reading, listening to music, scrolling on Pinterest, and talking to friends. Throughout the year, Nicholas aspires to accomplish several different things, including shining a spotlight on unknown clubs and our hard-working students, creating articles on pop culture and fashion, as well as bringing great success for the Bulldog Times.

Madison O’Neill, News Editor

Madison O’Neill (12) is the News Editor for the Bulldog Times, and this will be her third year on staff. Madison is hoping to write and publish articles that help to inform the student body of events that are occurring in the community. She is looking forward to connecting with different people and groups, continuing to publish her works for her last year in high school, and mentoring new students within the publication. In addition to being the News Editor, she is also a player for the girls’ golf team at Ayala and a member of multiple clubs, such as Find Kind and Positive School Culture Club. In her free time, she enjoys reading romance and mystery novels, listening to music, and watching Netflix with her family.
