The long awaited sequel to the hit film, “The Devil Wears Prada,” hit theaters on May 1. After the great success of the first film, many were anticipating the sequel, and the movie exceeded those expectations. The movie was filled with great soundtrack, fashion, and wonderful characters for people to love and enjoy. With the success of this movie, many moviegoers are now more motivated to go back to the theaters to see newest releases this summer.
With the long wait for the film, “The Devil Wears Prada” fans of the first movie were extremely excited when the sequel was announced and then released. In their first week, the film pushed a total of $233.6 million total in ticket sales and hit $288 million in their first week of premiere. This box office total beats the $27.5 million that the first film made in their debut week.
In order to reach this outstanding number in sales, the marketing team did a great job in advertisement and product. Days before the release of the film there were vending machines with sponsored products advertising the film; and with the release of the film at AMC theaters, customers were given a “Runway” magazine and a pair of sunglasses. Additionally, a popcorn bucket in the shape of a purse looked great to other themed popcorn buckets that have been released previously.
Quote reenactments from the first film were posted nearly everywhere. In each nook and corner of social media, content creators were saying, “Everybody wants this Andrea.” Although this was not a production of the marketing team, it most definitely benefited the marketing for the film with this word-of-mouth hype. This benefit came from others reminiscing on how funny and inspirational the first film was and how that same story would continue in the newest film.
Both 2025 and 2026 have been inundated many sequel or live action versions of well-known films being released. However, many of these films have been viewed as “flops” in the cinema industry, as not many have done that well. Yet, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” was like none of the others. Not only did this film do well in the box office, it also did a great job of keeping the same charm and story of the first film. This film should be the guideline on how new sequel films should be if other productions want to have the same success of this film.
Now this film’s surprising success will go down in history. Through marketing and new social media trends, the hype for this film was spectacular which made this film a box office success. Additionally, with all of the sequel films that have been released this one is incomparable to the rest. With it being a great continuation of the original story, it is held at a higher standard than many other sequel films.
