“Whether it’s taking every small victory that we have, or just any moment that we have together… Whether it’s the smallest or biggest things, I always want to appreciate them because it just makes an impact on how I’ll look at my future. I feel like when I’m an adult, I’d want to be like, I hope, ‘Man I had a good time!’ And I don’t want to regret it,” Sacramento said.

For almost 5 years of her academic career, Alex Sacramento (11) has been involved with choir, employing her vocal talents and expertise to its full deserved potential. For those familiar with choir activities and performances, her schedule is definitely hectic at times, with homework and extracurricular activities side by side. Nonetheless, with strong bonds and friendships, love for all things musically inclined, and great dedication, Sacramento enjoys every second of her school involvement.

Alex Sacramento is an alto vocal representative of Ayala Choir’s vocal ensemble. Since she was a young girl, Sacramento has catered an undying passion for singing, as she was involved with her elementary school’s choir, starting in 6th grade. Sparking this passion were her friend, but majorly her mom-also talented in singing endeavors- who was the one who persuaded Sacramento utilizing the popular attributes of Filipino culture. In particular, Sacramento held a deep admiration for the culture’s uniting characteristics, hence her eagerness in choir involvement.

“Karaoke is such a cultural thing that we have and will always do, since it allows us to become closer together and because of that type of culture, I just continue to sing because it allows me to not only to express myself, but to also talk to and just have fun with my family and my friends,” Sacramento said.

However, while hanging out with her closest peers and fulfilling her vocal brilliance has been a thrilling experience throughout the past 5-6 years, Sacramento often finds trouble running a proper school schedule. Many high schoolers understand the simple struggle of late night studying and overdue assignments, but to Sacramento, it’s become a normal obstacle she overcomes easier as they approach.

“I’m asked, ‘how will you handle this?’ and it’s just that I make sure to do things and apply things that I like and make sure that I’m stable enough so whether it’s just playing games, like doing the hobbies I love, but also taking your time to just do, perhaps, some exercises, ” Sacramento said.

In a team effort, a close friend Sacramento undoubtedly shares her most achieved moments and her most troubled moments with would be Chris Sun (11), a member of Ayala choir’s men ensemble, who motivates her and lends a shoulder to lean on. Whether its towards pre-performance stress or inspiration for hard work, Sun offers strong words of uplifting wisdom and affirmative strength that get Sacramento through the seemingly endless days— or even the entire school year.

“Chris is a very hardworking person and always wants to constantly improve. Besides the fact he works hard, he’s one of my closest friends and a person I can trust a lot about anything,” Sacramento expresses.

Likewise, Sun finds inspiration from Sacramento, mentioning, “She can make you laugh really hard and she could even make you cry laugh because that’s just her personality. Alex is really good at brightening up your day and just making you feel better about yourself and anything in general”

Regardless of trivial struggles and inevitable stress, Alex Sacramento can ensure confidence in each of us, just as she is in her life motto, “appreciate the small things in life”. Assuredly, despite life’s unpredictable moments and shocks, each occasion is one-time only and cherish-able regardless.
