Girls Varsity Soccer first game ends in a stalemate

Our Ayala girls varsity soccer team kicked off their season on a cold Monday night against the Roosevelt Mustangs, the same school that our boys soccer team faced to start their season a day later.

Unlike the boys teams, the roles were switched. Ayala had owned an 8-11-2 record the season prior while Roosevelt ended 12-7-5. While Ayala wanted to turn things around, Roosevelt wanted to keep things rolling. Neither of the two ended up happening, however, as both teams scored twice in the opening half to set the tone.

A tense second half created openings for both sides, and neither could capitalize. Despite several efforts, the clock hit 80 minutes without a decision.

I suppose the best way to look at it is that it was not a loss. Looking ahead, Ayala will prepare for a matchup against Los Osos in their first game of the year, the season following a successful 16-7-1 campaign. Roosevelt will part ways with Ayala and get set for a match against the Fullerton Warriors in their home turf.
